Special Music

If you are interested in participating in Special Music, please contact Joe Cox (540-657-5765). He will schedule a time to have a short interview with you and to listen to you sing or play your instrument.

The special music schedule goes out via email 3 times a year covering 4 months.

When you receive the schedule, check your scheduled date, and notify Joe Cox (jdcglc@yahoo.com) of any conflicts.

The month before you are scheduled you will receive a reminder of your upcoming Sunday.

At least 2 weeks before your scheduled date provide Joe Cox with words to your song.  Please have a backup song in case there are conflicts with the words.

Note: when choosing music please be aware that not everything on Christian radio is appropriate, doctrinally sound, or focused on Jesus. Our part in this ministry should be to prepare our brothers and sisters hearts to receive the Word of God and keep their focus on Him. (Colossians 3:16)

One week before your scheduled date, you will need to be prepared to sing your song for Joe Cox, Cheryl Ellsmore, or Jim Ellsmore. At that time you will be able to hear yourself on mic and receive advice for how to polish your song before Sunday.  Sunday, Monday or Wednesday evenings before or after AWANA, Worship Team or Choir will be the designated times for this.

Sunday morning on your scheduled date you will need to be at the church at 9:05 a.m. You will go over your song once for a sound check and will sing for both services.

If you are not able to send your words at least 2 weeks ahead and sing a week before your scheduled date, you will be bumped from your scheduled date and will need to speak to Joe Cox about when you can be scheduled again.

If you are scheduled for Communion, please arrive by 9:00 a.m. and you will be given an opportunity for a sound check. You will play for both services.

3 WORDS TO FOCUS ON:

FLEXIBILITY- Keep in mind that we are all here to serve our Lord. We must put aside our self and recognize that we will be inconvenienced and uncomfortable at times so that He may be glorified. (James 4:10)

OWNERSHIP- Each one involved must take responsibility for his/her scheduled date. This means if you need an accompanist seek them out and allow ample time for rehearsals as soon as you know you're scheduled. Be on the lookout for tracks or songs you'd like to sing way in advance. Above all, let Joe Cox know if your scheduled date is okay or if you need to switch. If you do need to switch, check with the other people on the schedule and notify Joe Cox right away of any changes.

PREPARATION- As partakers of this ministry, our greatest sacrifice is the time of preparation. Just as David said to King Araunah in 2 Samuel 24:24b "...how can I offer sacrifice to the Lord that which cost me nothing?" The King wanted to give David the threshing floor for nothing to set up an altar as the Lord had commanded. David recognized that in order to sacrifice to the Lord it would be wrong to accept the King's gift without paying for it. We too must recognize that it will cost us our time to be in Special Music. We must be well prepared to bring an offering of praise that is our absolute best. The way we accomplish this is by spending as much time as possible in knowing our song forwards and backwards (memorization would not hurt) and working out any trouble spots.

If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas for this portion of the Worship ministry please seek out Joe Cox, Cheryl Ellsmore, or Jim Ellsmore.

"If anyone speaks let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen." (1 Peter 4:11)
