Baptism

Occoquan Bible Church holds to what has historically been known as believer's baptism. Believer's baptism is characterized by the following:

It was universally practiced in the early church.
Romans 6:3 All of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death

It is by immersion, not sprinkling or pouring.
The Greek word baptizo means immersion. It also makes sense to assume baptism by immersion in the early church based on scriptures about baptism, such as John 3:23 "John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there."

It signifies our death with Christ that was accomplished at Calvary and was first experienced when we were united to Christ by faith.

It is intended for those who have made a public proclamation of their faith in Christ.
In other words, we do not believe in infant baptism.

Occoquan Bible Church holds baptism classes for all those who are interested in being baptized. For more information about baptism or the baptism classes, please contact Pastor Kyle, Pastor Dave, or Missy Gautsch.
