ASSOCIATE PASTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
ASSOCIATE PASTOR OF STUDENT MINISTRIES
SHEPHERDING RESPONSIBILITIES
· As a Pastor, Elder, and spiritual shepherd, the Associate Pastor will be expected to be regularly involved in the leadership and development of a FLOCK (Acts 20:28-38; 1 Peter 5:1-4).
· He will also be expected to maintain healthy working relationships with other church staff, lay elders, and coworkers. In addition, he will seek to be an example in his own family as husband and father.
· The Associate Pastor will also ensure that the necessary administrative functions are performed in order to keep the ministries under his oversight operating smoothly.
QUALIFICATIONS
· It is expected that this Pastor will have, or be working on, an undergraduate degree related to this position, from an evangelical college or university.
· He should have had some effective history of working in the areas of children and youth ministry.
· He must also have a good track record of displaying strong people skills, which allows him to multiply and reproduce himself in others (Mt. 28:19,20;
2 Tim.2:2).
AREAS OF OVERSIGHT
All Children’s Ministries (birth – 6th grade) and Youth Ministries.
A. Policy and Guidance
1. Development and maintenance of Family and Youth ministry policies as chairman of the Family and Youth ministry councils.
2. Maintain the spiritual aims of outreach and edification with the Family and Youth councils.
3. Monitor and encourage spiritual growth and family strength in the lives of workers within the Family and Youth ministries.
4. Stimulate and encourage healthy families in a broad sense within the life of OBC.
B. Recruitment and Training
1. Maintain timely recruitment and staffing of workers for various areas of ministry under his oversight.
2. Develop pre-service and in-service training of all Family & Youth workers.
3. Develop and oversee teacher evaluation.
C. Curriculum Development and Management
1. Coordinate the formulation and regular updating of a comprehensive curriculum plan to cover the Family and Youth ministries.
2. Oversee the evaluation and selection of materials to be used in the Family and Youth ministries.
D. Working Relations
1. As a pastoral staff member this person will have initiating responsibilities and leadership in the ministries he oversees. He will, as an Associate Pastor, serve on the Elder Board, representing those who serve in the ministries he oversees, once he completes all pre-requisites for serving as a governing elder (After completing two leadership modules and receiving two satisfactory performance reviews conducted by the Senior Pastor and the Elder Board Chairman).
2. He will work in conjunction with other staff members in areas relating to their ministries. He may appeal to the chairman of the Elder board to resolve issues of conflict with the Senior Pastor or other staff members. Any continuing unresolved conflict would then be placed on the Elder board agenda for consideration by the entire Elder board.
3. He will serve as Chairman of the Family and Youth Councils.
E. Administration
1. Long-range planning for the Family and Youth ministries.
2. Procurement, maintenance, inventory, storage and distribution of materials and equipment for the Family and Youth ministries.
3. Oversight of an attendance record-keeping system for all Family and Youth classes on Sunday morning.
4. Preparation and oversight of the overall Family and Youth budget.
5. Submit a strategic annual (to include a calendar of events) plan for Elder approval at the beginning of every calendar year. This report should also include a history of accomplishments from the past year.
6. Planning, scheduling and conducting of council meetings with Family and Youth personnel on a regular basis.
EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT
A. Salary and Benefits Package
1. Salary will be determined by the OBC salary formula. This may be divided up between housing, salary, ministry expenses, etc. for tax purpose if you qualify as a minister with the I.R.S.
2. Health Insurance is provided for you and your family through Kaiser Permanente.
3. A budget of $2,000 will be provided for continuing education and personal enrichment.
4. Leave will be granted for vacation, illness and conferences as per the “OBC Staff Absence/Leave Policy.”
5. The Associate Pastor will serve a one (1) year probationary period consisting of 2 evaluations conducted by the Pastor-teacher and the Elder Chairman (at 3 and 9 months). These evaluations would include specific performance expectations, and include such things as ministry responsibilities, office duties, and the keeping of regular office hours. A copy of regular evaluations will be included in the Associate Pastor’s Welcoming Packet.
B. Relocation
1. We will provide moving expenses for you and your family not to exceed $10,000.00
2. During the first two weeks, you will be expected to use the time to get acquainted, set-up your office and filing system and become comfortable with the ministry of OBC.
3. A love gift will be provided for you during your first month at OBC.
C. Weekly Expectations
1. You will be expected to contribute 45-55 hours a week in ministry at OBC.
2. One day a week should be allocated for family growth, personal rest and refreshment.
3. Maintain regular office hours, with a day off during the week, with ministry hours outside of the office being approved and coordinated through the Senior Pastor.
