ZECHARIAH
How many of you have heard a sermon
on the book of Zechariah? Even
fewer of you have heard a whole
series covering
the entire 14 chapters of the book
of Zechariah. We are about to enter
unchartered waters together in 2007
because I have never preached a
sermon series on Zechariah.
In preparation for this
study I have found that Zechariah is
a book of both correction and
celebration. Zechariah will take us
from the Jewish exile and domination
by the gentiles to messianic rule.
He’ll take us from persecution to
peace, and from wicked oppression to
holiness. Zechariah’s message is
full of “kind and comforting words”(
Zech 1:13). His message is one of
final justice which comes when God
fulfills his promises, protects his
people, and restores all things to a
whole and renewed state resembling
that of the first creation in Eden .
Zechariah’s view of God’s Word is
high and exalted. He sees God’s Word
as effective, powerful, and
fulfilling it’s purposes because it
is tightly aligned with God’s
character and omniscience. Bible
believing Christians will receive a
renewed and refreshing confidence by
studying Zechariah’s perspective on
God and his written Word.
