Laurie Wagnon is a new believer that
God has recently welcomed into his family. Here is her story:
What is your family’s spiritual background?
“My extended family is based in Salt Lake City, they are
practicing Mormons.”
Were you brought up Mormon?
“No. I really had no faith of any kind.”
What made you interested in Christianity?
“Just about everybody that I worked with was a Christian. You
could tell from working with them that they were Christians. I
wanted what they had.”
What was it that they had that you wanted?
“I wanted peace of mind and purpose.”
Who was it that shared their faith with you?
“First some Mormons were going door to door and I told
them about some of my struggles and what I wanted. I told them I
wanted what they had. We had a long talk. I told one of my
co-workers, Diana Rosner, about my conversation with the Mormons that came to my door. She didn’t come out and tell me
that they were wrong. But she helped me research what they
believed. She showed me the differences between what she
believed and what Mormons believe. She invited me to the
August WOO. The
Women of Occoquan gave me a warm welcome. I saw
all the women there and their faith and I wondered how I missed
the boat.”
When did you make your final decision to accept Christ?
“After I attended the August WOO in 2004.”
What is something you’ve begun to change?
“I’ve started to think before I act.”
What was one thing that was hard for you to adjust to?
“Praying out loud was very hard. I had never prayed out loud
before I became a child of God. It’s something I’m still
learning how to do.”
How do your old friends feel about your walk with Christ?
“They are all very supportive.”
What does your family think about your commitment to Christ?
“My daughter has noticed changes. My husband grew up a Christian
but he doesn’t think it’s necessary to walk the walk. But he
thinks its great, but he doesn’t want to be preached to.”
Are you involved in a Bible study group?
“Yes. I attend the Monday night ladies Bible study. We are going
through Ordinary Men. It’s about the 12 Apostles.”
What is God teaching you through the Bible study?
“You don’t have to be perfect. But you do have to take action
Monday through Sunday. You have to practice it everyday.”
